Malc, I guess we are well in to the 70's now with flared pants and shoes with stacked soles and heels. Feathered haircuts at Maurice Cobalts or John Jullians on Ivy Rd. Funk was the music to dance to with Rufus, Kokomo, War, Isleys 4+4, Earth, Wind and Fire, KC and the Sunshine Band all producing top sounds. Phillips Park Hall and Bennies were the venues to go to. The Bees Knees announced all drinks 20p!! I can't remember much after that. :-)

At 15 I earned £4.7s.11d. (young uns sayin WTF) as an apprentice and I had to tip up. A little weekend job at the Pumphouse off Tonge Moor Rd. earned me enough for the proper things in life - records, scoot stuff, ciggies etc. Clothes bought by mi Mam, she couldn't get her head around the price of Levis and when I turned up with a pair of Skinners she went ballistic. Somehow we all got through the lean years and all for the better I hope.

John where did you get the money to buy three pints. After I had bought clothes and petrol there wasnt much left of my wage, even though a pint was less than two bob.

The CanCan became the Kismet restaurant. there was a bouncer at the Palais called Arthur Horrocks, he lived in our street but that didn't stop him gettin bossy with us now and again. He chucked a guy over the balcony who landed on the piano on the stage. The Bamboo club around the corner from the Palais I think. Star and Garter, Newmarket, Founders..... ah three pints and take on the world.

Malc, started going to the Palais in '69 when I was 13!! Used to go Sunday, Monday and Thursday and we stood at the to top of the right hand isle downstairs. Went to the Casino/Bees Knees on Crompton Way, the Cromwellian on Bank Street and of course Burnden Park. Remember the Cassablanca coffee house and Wimpy''s? Va Va's later on and the Playmate, ex Cromwellian. Top days.

John just been looking at your list of names of ex roadrunners very interesting. It was like going back in time you have jogged my memory,I know some of those names. When I first saw you at a roadrunners meeting something told me I knew you from a long time ago. Is it possibly the Palais days in the sixties and seventies?
